Parish Youth Nuvem advanced to the quarterfinals of the 30th Mandopa Cup after securing a 6-4 victory in a penalty shootout over Dicarpali Sports Club at Mandopa Ground on Tuesday.
The match began with a quick strike from Dicarpali SC in the 2nd minute. Agnelo Colaco delivered a perfect cross to Delton Colaco, who raced down the wing, beat the Nuvem goalkeeper, and slotted the ball into the net. However, Dicarpali's lead was short-lived. In the 10th minute, Nuvem was awarded a penalty after a Dicarpali defender brought down a Nuvem player in the box. Godfrey Mascarenhas calmly converted the penalty, leveling the score at 1-1, which remained the same at halftime.
The second half saw both teams squander several opportunities to take the lead. Despite their best efforts, neither side managed to score, and the match proceeded to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
In the shootout, Parish Youth Nuvem held their nerve, converting 5 of their 7 penalties. Godfrey Mascarenhas, Melwyn Fernandes, Frazer Miranda, Rollan Noronha, and Joywin Costa all found the back of the net. For Dicarpali, William Niasso, Delton Colaco, and Lyron Rocha scored, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory.
Delton Colaco of Dicarpali SC was awarded the Man of the Match by Manuel Gomes, Sr. Citizen and member of Mandopa Sports Club, for his outstanding performance.
