Sao Jose de Areal battled their way into the quarterfinals of the United Trophy, edging past Curtorim Gymkhana with a close 2-1 victory in a match played at the Rosary Church ground in Navelim on Thursday. The tournament is being organized by United Club Telaulim.
Sao Jose de Areal drew first blood, with Rayman Fernandes scoring the opening goal from a well-taken free-kick that eluded Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Johnson Bagot. Shortly after, Aryan Endro doubled Sao Jose de Areal's lead.
Curtorim Gymkhana fought back in the final stages of the game and managed to reduce the deficit through a goal from Afileo Fernandes, but it wasn't enough to level the score.
Aryan Endro of Sao Jose de Areal was recognized for his crucial contribution to the win and was named the Man of the Match. The award was presented by Carmo Ferrao, a member of United Club Telaulim.
