MARGAO
Sports Minister Govind Gaude has raised alarms about the waning interest in football among the youth of Goa, stating that their passion for the game is slowly diminishing.

Gaude made these comments during the opening day of the two-day GFDC Football Summit, organized by the Goa Football Development Council and the Goa Football Association at the BPS Club in Margao.

While acknowledging the Goa government's significant contributions to the sport's development, including the availability of quality playing fields across the State, Gaude emphasized the need for a revival of enthusiasm among young players.

“In Goa, we have good grounds, a stark contrast to the rough pitches of the past. The government is committed to promoting the game,” he said.

However, he expressed concern that “we lack passion,” urging that young minds are not being attracted to football despite having a platform to showcase their talents.

Gaude called on stakeholders to take the initiative in boosting football in the region. He also underscored the vital role of media in promoting sports, asserting that it can greatly influence the growth of football.

The minister assured that the government would continue to provide financial support to local clubs and emphasized that discipline is essential for players aspiring to excel in the sport.
