St Anthony High High School Monte De Guirim A defeated St Anthony High School Monte De Guirim team-B 2-1 to emerge victorious in the 14th Pioneer Trophy in a nail biting final at Peddem ground Mapusa recently.
The U-14 6-a-side one day girls Tournament was held in honour of Fr. Bento Martins Founder of the Society of Pilar and organized by Pilar Fathers Sonshi Honda, Goa Province under the leadership of Fr. George Nandiyala, and Fr. Suman Indwar SFX, in collaboration with the Goans Hockey.
Ten teams from eight schools in the league cum knockout competition with each team displaying an outstanding performance.
In the tug of war between skills, abilities and team work each tried to be better than others to qualify for the semi-final. St Anthony High School Monte De Guirim A and B, Holy Cross High School Bastora and St Anthony High School Duler, secured their spot in semifinals.
Holy Cross high School Bastora secured the third place in the tournament. Fair play award bagged by the St Thomas High School Aldona. The best player of the tournament Tamanah, (Guirim B) and highest scorer of the tournament, Anshika (Duler).
The award ceremony was presided over by Chief Guest of the day Fr. Joaquim Rebello SFX, Provincial Superior of Goa Province. The Guest of honour Joao Rebello, head coach of Vasco Sports Club.
Special invites Sr. Jyoti Beck (Pilar Sister), Fr. Domnic Alvares SFX, and all other dignitaries graced the events. They also hailed the tournament’s success by their encouraging words, presence and support.
