United Club of Seraulim defeated Sporting Club Davorlim 2-1 to emerge as champions of the Vaidya Family Memorial Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union, at the Cuncolim School playground on Sunday.
The final ended goalless at halftime, with both teams fighting hard for the lead. However, substitute Nayab Khan broke the deadlock in the 54th minute for USC Seraulim, scoring from a well-delivered cross by Sakshan Shanke.
Sporting Club Davorlim quickly responded, with Ajay Raj equalising in the very next minute. The decisive moment came in the 59th minute when Sakshan Shanke scored the winner for USC Seraulim off a pass from Savan Lotlikar.
The victorious USC Seraulim took home a cash prize of Rs 75,000 along with the Vaidya Trophy, while Sporting Club Davorlim settled for Rs 50,000 and a trophy. Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, was the chief guest and presented the prizes in the presence of Hitesh Patil and Harshit Sengar from New India Assurance Co Ltd, Landry Mascarenhas (Chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council), Sanjay Shetkar, Santosh Fal Dessai, and Sandeep Dessai.
