Goa's Vasco Vipers emerged victorious in the 11th edition of the Youth Kabaddi Series' Third Division, hosted in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Under the astute captaincy of Bhargav Mandrekar, the team showcased remarkable tenacity, defeating Himalayan Tahrs with a close margin of 34-30 in a gripping final to claim the divisional championship.
The tournament, held at the Karpagam University campus from December 12 to December 21, saw the Vipers dominate the preliminary rounds with consistent victories against Tadoba Tigers, Indore Invincibles, Konark Kings, Dehradun Dynamos, Ranchi Rangers, Ladakh Wolves, and Chambal Challengers, earning their place in the finals.
In a nail-biting finale, Prince Dahiya of Vasco Vipers delivered a stellar performance, securing 10 raid points. His exceptional play earned him accolades as the "Player of the Match" and the "Best Raider" of the tournament. Meanwhile, Sachin, another key player for Vasco, was recognized as the "Best Defender."
Captain Bhargav Mandrekar demonstrated his versatility and strategic acumen throughout the series, amassing an impressive 44 raid points over nine matches.
Despite Tadoba Tigers and Himalayan Tahrs entering the competition as favorites, the debutant Vasco Vipers made a spectacular impact, outshining their seasoned competitors to clinch the title. Their remarkable journey drew praise from Goa Kabaddi Association President Rukmini Kamat and Babu Kamat, who lauded the team for its commendable debut performance.
As the tournament progresses into its second and first divisions, the top-performing teams will advance to the Youth Kabaddi Series Edition 11 Final League, scheduled to take place from January 25 to February 25, 2025.
