Verna Veterans put it across Varca Veterans 2-0 to enter the last-eight stage of the Santa Cruz Village Panchayat Veterans Cup football tournament at Santa Cruz ground on Thursday.
Verna Veterans had an encouraging start with Remy Fernandes providing his team the lead in the 18th minute. Seven minutes later, Vincent Fernandes scored the insurance goal to put Verna in a commanding position.
In the second session, Varca tried to fight their way back into the match, but the Verna defence stood tall. There were a couple of chances for Varca to pull a goal back, but their strikers lacked the cutting edge upfront as their opponents heaved a sigh of relief.
In the quarterfinals, Verna will now lock horns with Vasco Veterans on Sunday.
