Will FC Goa manage to get their first win against East Bengal FC tonight?

Panaji: Tonight, FC Goa will face East Bengal FC in their first home match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. East Bengal comes into this game after a tough 2-1 loss to Kerala Blasters FC. In contrast, FC Goa managed a 1-1 draw against Mohammedan SC in Kolkata during Matchweek 2.

East Bengal is hoping to secure back-to-back wins at home. They last celebrated a home victory in April when they defeated Bengaluru FC 2-1. If they win tonight, it would mark their first consecutive home win in the ISL and their first victory in an opening home game since joining the league.

FC Goa has a strong history against East Bengal, scoring in all eight of their previous ISL matches. They have only kept one clean sheet in these encounters. In their last four meetings, FC Goa has come out on top every time. However, they do have a slight concern, as they have only managed one clean sheet against East Bengal overall.

East Bengal has struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just once in their last two matches, despite having talented forwards like Dimitrios Diamantakos, Naorem Mahesh Singh, and Nandhakumar Sekar. PV Vishnu is their only goal-scorer so far. Coach Carles Cuadrat acknowledged this challenge, emphasizing the need for better finishing and decision-making in the final third. He is optimistic that the team will improve with more training.

On the other hand, FC Goa's coach, Manolo Marquez, expressed concerns about his team’s performance. After winning the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy, fans expected a strong start in the ISL, but the team has only earned one point from two matches. Marquez noted that while the players are skilled, they seem mentally tired.

Cuadrat stressed the importance of being prepared for a physically demanding game. He believes his team has the capability to compete hard and is determined to fight for three points at home.
