Staircase in any Vastu carries much importance because of the heaviness it creates. This again depends on its location. The heaviness created by the staircase is immovable. So, it should be first ascertained which direction of the Vastu allows the heaviness of the staircase without inviting any flaws or defects. And that is why the staircase has to be in an auspicious direction.
The staircase should never be in the North-East, Brahmasthan and the South-West of the house because these are the locations of the Vastu Purusha’s head, belly and feet. The staircase in these locations in the house is considered a serious defect. Heaviness in these locations will suppress the energy flow in the Vastu thereby bringing all sorts of negativities.
Vastu shastra allows only two best and auspicious directions for the staircase and they are South and West directions. Staircase in any other direction of the house will bear bitter fruits blocking the positive flow of prosperity. There will be financial blockage if it in the North direction. If it is in the North-East there can be health issues, especially related to the head. There can be a loss of name and reputation if it located in the East. Delay in work and unexpected expenditure are the possible causes if the staircase is in the South-East.
A staircase in the South-West will make it impossible to have the master bedroom in this direction. It can also be the cause of obstacles in carrying any work related to finances and business. North-West staircase will give rise to personal relationship problems and legal problems. There will be continuous problems on all fronts in the family if the staircase is in the Brahmasthan.
It is advised that the staircase in the house should be designed in a clockwise position. Anti-clockwise stairs should be avoided. It must be also borne in mind not to have a prayer room or altar, toilet, kitchen, study table or seating arrangement under the staircase. Space underneath it can be best used for light storage or can be kept empty. The steps of the staircase should be always odd such as 5, 7, 9, 11 etc. It must never be exactly opposite to the main entrance door. The circular and spiral staircases should be avoided. Black colour stones should not be used for the stairs. To correct the Vastu defects of the staircase placed in the wrong direction, it is advisable to consult a Vastu expert.
