Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor recently shared his thoughts on his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s legacy, climate change, and acting. Reflecting on Raj Kapoor’s impact, Ranbir highlighted the global appeal of his films, which transcended cultural boundaries.
He stated, “I don’t believe in remakes. His films were perfect in their time and shouldn’t be altered.” Ranbir fondly recalled moments when strangers, recognising his family lineage, displayed admiration for Raj Kapoor’s universal influence.
Addressing climate change, Ranbir expressed concern for the future, especially as a father. “The anxiety surrounding climate change is real. We must think about the world our children will inherit,” he said, urging artists to raise awareness through their work. “Cinema can inform and educate. It’s our moral responsibility to highlight environmental issues and spread accurate information.”
On acting, Ranbir emphasised honesty over deception, disagreeing with the notion that acting is akin to lying. “Acting requires truth and presence. It’s hard work, continuous learning, and reinvention. Predictability kills interest.” He added that unlearning and evolving are key to staying relevant.
Ranbir also shared his admiration for Raj Kapoor’s timeless music and storytelling, noting their ability to connect universally, and expressed a wish to discuss his own work with his grandfather.
