SIOLIM
The St Anthony’s Parish at Siolim recently celebrated the feast of St Joseph, and honoured the fathers by acknowledging their unique role in the family.
The evening commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided by the Parish Priest Dr Fr Socorro Mendes and concelebrated by his Assistant, Fr Mario Carvalho and Fr Marcos D’Souza (MSFS).
In his homily, Fr Mendes spoke on the role of a father in the family. He further emphasised on three important virtues that a father has to imbibe and share with his children: The Presence, the Power and the Providence of God.
He also said that, like St Joseph, a father imparts the qualities of honesty, silence and fear of the Lord into his children.
A short programme was put up by various Associations of the Parish on the theme “Our Fathers’ - Our Treasures”.
The whole programme was co-ordinated by a core group in which Sr Shirley was the main motivating force. The programme began with a welcome address by Belvin Fernandes which was followed by a display of a wide range of items that showcased the unending love and gratitude for fathers.
A welcome song by the catechism children expressing their feelings of love. A song by the catechists that depicted the importance of a father in the family was sung. A power packed skit with a beautiful message that emphasised the sacrifices a father does and the love a father shows to his children.
A mashup dance performance by the youth that transported everyone to the yester years was a hilarious one. A melodious musical piece rendered by Master Aiden D’Souza was appreciated by one and all.
A soulful Mando written by Braz Fernandes and assisted by Zerlinda Fernandes along with her accompanying troupe culminated the celebration. One of the greatest highlights and an edifying event that was noted by everyone, that the Catechists who were given in marriage this year in Bardez, returned to their Father’s house with their spouses in order to participate in the Fathers’ Day celebration, by playing musical instruments, thus honouring their “pops” on this auspicious day.
The evening was also filled with various fun segments of spot prizes and group games which kept the Fathers’ entertained, besides the cutting of the cake, popping of the Champagne, and the address by the Parish Priest. A big number of Fathers and even their spouses were present for this special “Fathers’ Day” celebration.
A heartfelt word of gratitude by Canet D’Souza wrapped up the evening. Gabriel D’Souza and Samuel D’Souza captured the precious moments of this celebration by their photography and videography, respectively.
