Goa’s rich cultural heritage took centre stage at Lokotsav 2025 with a unique wheelchair performance of the Mussal dance – a Goan folk art. Held at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy in Panaji on Tuesday, this remarkable event was led by the members of the Disabilities Rights Association of Goa, under the team leadership of Vishant Nagvekar.

For the first time in Lokotsav’s 24-year history, individuals with disabilities (Divyangjan) performed the Mussal dance, showcasing their talents alongside persons without disabilities. This inclusive performance featured dancers, singers, and musicians from different parts of Goa, making it a truly inclusive event.

Vishant Nagvekar expressed his gratitude to the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, for recognising the potential of these talented individuals. He appreciated their efforts to make the venue accessible and provide a national platform for their performance. “The government’s steps towards making society more inclusive for persons with disabilities are commendable,” he added.

The president of the Disability Alliance for Inclusive Goa thanked the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, for their initiative and support for the Mussal dance on wheelchair performance. The audience warmly received the performance, applauding the unique presentation and the spirit of inclusivity it represented.
