I remember, in my childhood days, the presence of the night watchman patrolling and making sounds to signal safety likely brought a sense of comfort to the community. That simple routine created a feeling of protection, but today’s reality is much more complex.
Now, even in broad daylight, we hear about frequent robberies, which were previously unheard of. The mix of locals and migrants involved in crime adds another layer of complexity, making it clear that we can no longer afford to be complacent.
This evolving situation is a stark reminder that vigilance isn’t just for the night anymore; it is an absolute necessity in all aspects of life.
Another grave concern is that road accidents have become so common that it’s hard to ignore the growing danger on the streets. Unpermitted construction and illegal property claims have unfortunately become a common occurrence in Goa. These issues not only disrupt the natural beauty of the state but also fuel a sense of lawlessness.
There’s a significant difference between feeling comfortable and being safe. Security is no longer limited to physical barriers or instruments such as cameras and locks. These safeguards only create a false sense of security if we are not aware of our surroundings.
Whether it’s on the road, in public spaces, or even in our own homes, alertness is now essential, as danger doesn’t follow a set schedule. Staying alert doesn’t mean living in fear; it means being aware. The truth is, moments of complacency can lead to unexpected disasters.
Authorities must dig deeper, addressing the issues at their core. To truly make a difference, action must be taken at the grassroots level, ensuring that those who break the law face appropriate consequences.
