MARGAO
The government has decided to use the top two floors of the ESI hospital, Margao, to quarantine passengers arriving at the Dabolim airport as a precautionary measure.
No sooner the Health Services took possession of the two floors, two passengers who had landed at the Dabolim airport were quarantined at the ESI hospital and are being kept under observation as a precautionary measure.
The ESI authorities handed over the top two floors with 50-bed capacity to the Directorate of Health Services after District Collector South Ajit Roy and other officials visited the ESI hospital on Wednesday morning.
Sources in the know informed that the two floors of the ESI hospital will be only used to house the passengers who land at the Dabolim airport before they head to their respective homes. “These passengers, who are quarantined at the ESI hospital may be allowed to go to their respective homes once it is proved that they don’t carry any symptoms of coronavirus. This is just a facility to house the passengers before they go home”, a senior health official said.
The officer further pointed out that the passengers need not undergo the 14-day quarantine if they don’t show any of the symptoms.
Sources in the ESI hospital pointed out that while the hospital management has handed over to the DHS the top two floors, the DHS staff will take full control of the treatment of the persons quarantined at the hospital. “We have made available a dedicated lift for the DHS which can take the persons directly to the 4th and 5th floor without disturbing the ESI patients. The DHS will bring their own beds, linen etc, besides the manpower to man the two floors”, a source added.
