A parked Maruti Swift car was badly damaged after a tree was uprooted and fell onto it near the Valankanni Chapel area close to Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Gate 9 on Thursday. No injuries or casualties were reported, and the driver escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred when the tree suddenly gave way and fell onto the car, causing damage to a portion of the vehicle. The impact drew the attention of local residents, motorists and passersby who gathered at the spot shortly after the incident. Eyewitnesses said the tree collapsed without warning, trapping the vehicle beneath its branches. However, the driver remained safe and no other persons were affected.

The Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the site and began cutting and removing the fallen tree to clear the area. Other authorities also reached the spot to assess the situation and coordinate the removal work.

Traffic movement in the area was briefly affected as clearance operations were carried out.

The road was later made safe for commuters after the fallen tree was removed.

While the exact cause of the collapse is not confirmed, preliminary indications suggest recent weather may have contributed.

Residents urged to exercise caution during monsoon season.
