The government is believed to have rolled out the AI-based traffic signals in South Goa on Wednesday on a cautious note, with the authorities reportedly going slow on the enforcement drive and also leaving a couple of signals in the villages out of the ambit of the system.
Road Transport officials attached to the RTO enforcement wing at Arlem could not provide details of the enforcement through the AI-based traffic signals, saying the system will fall into place in a couple of days.
Given that the villagers of Benaulim, Betalbatim and Navelim have expressed strong reservations about the traffic signals at the narrow traffic junctions, an RTO official said the authorities will not try to bulldoze the implementation of the traffic signals at these locations for the moment.
Sources informed that the authorities have decided to go slow in implementing the AI-based traffic signals for enforcement after a Road Transport official became a victim of a faulty signal at the Arlem traffic junction. The situation, sources said, was immediately conveyed to the control room installed at the RTO Arlem office and manned by a private agency.
The agency was advised not to rush with the enforcement when the traffic signals developed problems, as it would only invite backlash from agitated motorists.
