The crash created a dramatic scene, with the overturned vehicle precariously resting on a Mahindra KUV and traffic was blocked in both directions as police and emergency responders were harrowed to clear the wreckage.
According to police, the accident occurred near the Shantadurga temple end of the flyover. The i20, driven by Anup Govekar of Porvorim, changed lanes and was struck from behind by a Mahindra Scorpio. The impact caused the i20 to collide with the crash barrier, overturn, and land on the KUV. The Scorpio also skidded and hit a Renault Kwid.
The vehicles involved were identified as a Mahindra KUV (GA-07-K-8423), Renault Kwid (GA-06-F-7285), Hyundai i20 (GA-03-M-6606), and Mahindra Scorpio (KA-19-ME-6411).
Govekar sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment. No other serious injuries were reported.
Police registered MV accident case and deployed personnel to regulate traffic even as long queues of vehicles were seen stuck on the busy stretch as the damaged cars were being removed.
The incident highlighted the dangers of sudden lane changes on high-speed flyovers but for commuters, the sight of an overturned car perched on another vehicle was a scene more reminiscent of a movie than a Sunday drive.
