Even as the District Level Monitoring Committee on Mental Health and Prevention of Suicide in Higher Education Institutions has decided to organise monthly health camps at BITS Pilani from August onwards, the institute’s management has informed the authorities that attendance at the upcoming health camp will be mandatory for first-year students.

A meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) on Mental Health and Prevention of Suicide in Higher Education Institutions was chaired by Ramesh Gaonkar, Additional Collector-II, South Goa and H/c Kushavati Districts, in the presence of Bhushan Savaikar, Director of Higher Education.

The meeting reviewed the mental health initiatives undertaken at BITS Pilani and was attended by officials from the Departments of Health, Social Welfare, Law, Tribal Welfare and Technical Education, as well as the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), along with the Director and faculty members of BITS Pilani.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed seminars conducted on emotional intelligence and discussed measures to strengthen student well-being. It was decided to organise monthly health camps at BITS Pilani from August onwards. The BITS management informed the committee that attendance at the upcoming health camp will be mandatory for first-year students, while the chairperson directed that the camps be held every month.

The committee also resolved to make sports activities mandatory for first-year students and to organise a marathon on October 10 to mark World Mental Health Day.
